Desaru Johor: Glex Desaru's Paradise Awaits!

Alright, buckle up buttercups, because we're about to dive headfirst into the shimmering, sun-drenched world of Desaru Johor: Glex Desaru's Paradise Awaits! Forget the sterile brochure vibes – this is the real deal, the messy, beautiful, sometimes chaotic truth about this resort. And as I'm writing this, I’m already picturing myself back there… ugh, I want to go back! So, let's get into it in media res -

Accessibility:

Okay, so, the first thing I always check because I'm not a fan of carrying people, is how accessible a place is. Glex Desaru gets a thumbs up… mostly. They do have Facilities for disabled guests listed, and that's a good start. They also boast an Elevator, which is a lifesaver. However, I'm always wary of the word "accessible" until I've seen it with my own eyes, so I would need to know more specific details, like ramps everywhere? Doorways wide enough? You know, the specifics! I like that it is mentioned though. If you need more details, contact the place and demand them!

On-site Accessible Restaurants/Lounges:

This is where things get slightly hazy. Based on the provided information, it's tough to say FOR SURE if all restaurants/lounges are truly accessible. I hope so, but again, a direct query is a MUST! I’m not good at walking and I imagine, it works the same for wheelchairs!

Internet Access:

Wi-Fi [free] in all rooms! YES! The internet is good, I am writing this review and I got a good connection. Let's face it, in this digital age, this is non-negotiable. You can’t have a vacation without insta story, right? The good news is that Glex is providing! They’ve got Wi-Fi in public areas and Internet services are probably better than my internet at home!

Things to Do & Ways to Relax:

Right, this is where Glex really shines! Prepare to be pampered. The Spa is EVERYTHING. I’m talking about your classic Body scrub, Body wrap and Massage. Trust me, book a massage. One of the things that I really liked was this particular treatment: The masseuse started with a foot soak – a foot bath – and then, I was sent directly to heaven. My shoulders which are tensed from writing, well… they were a distant memory! Speaking of heaven, they have a Pool with view that is absolutely to die for, and a Swimming pool [outdoor]. Don’t go in expecting to do laps, but for a sunset dip? Perfection. They also have a Sauna, Spa/sauna, and Steamroom.

For those who like a bit of hustle, they have a Fitness center (which I, admittedly, didn't touch. Vacation mode, people!).

Cleanliness and Safety:

Alright, let's get serious for a minute. In today's world, safety is paramount. Glex Desaru seems to be taking this very seriously, which I greatly appreciate. They provide Anti-viral cleaning products, Hand sanitizer EVERYWHERE (halleluiah!), and Daily disinfection in common areas. They also have Rooms sanitized between stays, and Professional-grade sanitizing services.

Other really positive things they provide are : Doctor/nurse on call, and a First aid kit.

They seem to be on the ball.

Dining, Drinking, and Snacking:

Ohhhh, the food! Where do I even begin? Glex Desaru has a plethora of options to satisfy every craving. They got Restaurants, a Poolside bar (essential!), and a Snack bar for those mid-afternoon cravings.

They offer you the usual fare that is Breakfast [buffet] with Buffet in restaurant. You can always order Breakfast in room or ask for the Breakfast takeaway service. The stuff of dreams! They have: Asian cuisine in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant, and Western cuisine in restaurant. I'm a sucker for a good soup in restaurant, and I really enjoyed the food.

I was able to sit down and write my review over a cup of Coffee/tea in restaurant, and the sun was setting down, perfection.

Services and Conveniences:

This is where Glex goes from "good" to "GREAT!". They have everything you could possibly need and more: Air conditioning in public area, Cash withdrawal, Concierge service (essential for getting recommendations!), Daily housekeeping (thank God!), Doorman, Dry cleaning, an Elevator, I could go on! Facilities for disabled guests. And they have all of the other stuff, like an Ironing service, Laundry service, Luggage storage, and a Safety deposit box. This is what makes your stay super convenient, right?

For the Kids:

Glex Desaru is absolutely Family/child friendly. I wasn't traveling with kids, but I noticed families having a blast. They have Babysitting service and Kids facilities so if you are travelling with your kids, they thought about them!

Getting Around:

Airport transfer is available, which is a huge plus. They have a Car park [free of charge] and Taxi service.

Available in All Rooms:

Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty of the rooms themselves. They are pretty darn well-equipped! They have a Air conditioning (thank you, sweet Jesus!), Air conditioning (again… thank GOD!), Alarm clock, Bathtub, Bathrobes, Blackout curtains, Closet, Coffee/tea maker, Hair dryer, a Refrigerator, a Scale, a Shower, and Slippers… you get the picture. They've thought of almost everything. And you can open Window that opens, what more could you want?

The Quirky Bits (My Anecdotes):

Okay, here's where it got real for me. My first morning, I’m bleary-eyed, stumbling into the buffet. I reach for a croissant, and bam! A kid grabs the last one. I'm clearly still half-asleep, but this is my croissant. I ended up grabbing the last one from the food station, and I was ready to start my day. It wasn’t perfect, it was human. Then, I finally ordered the Coffee/tea in restaurant and everything was alright.

Alright, alright, buckle up buttercups! This isn't your sterile, perfectly-planned travel brochure. This is me going to Desaru, and you're coming along for the ride. Glex Desaru, here I come – and frankly, I'm already slightly stressed I haven't packed enough sunscreen. Let's see how this disaster… I mean, trip unfolds:

Glex Desaru: A Chaotic Itinerary (and My Sanity's Demise)

Pre-Departure (aka, The Impending Doom)

  • Day 0 (or, the Panic Before the Storm): Fridge is a biohazard. Laundry pile is winning. Packed. Or rather, attempted to pack. Ended up with three pairs of similar-coloured shorts and zero actual swimming gear. "Ah, I can buy a swimsuit there," I tell myself, trying to sound confident. I am not. Check passport. Check flight. Check…wait, did I leave the oven on? Ugh. The anxiety is already hitting hard, and I haven’t even left the house! This is going to be a long weekend.

Day 1: Beach Dreams (and a Sand-Induced Temper Tantrum)

  • Morning (The Great Transportation Struggle): Kuala Lumpur early flight to Senai Airport. The taxi was late, naturally. I am always late. Scrambled, sweat pouring, nearly tripped over a rogue suitcase. Made it. Airport chaos! Had a moment of genuine relief when I saw the Glex Desaru representative. Ah, finally some ease. Then, the rental car. It's a…let's just say it's well-loved. A little… dented. And the AC? More like a gentle breeze.

    • My Observation: Driving on the wrong side of the road is apparently a skill I haven’t mastered. Almost wiped out a herd of goats (they were surprisingly judgmental).
  • Late Morning/Early Afternoon (Beach Bliss…Sort Of): Finally. Glex Desaru! Check-in was surprisingly smooth (winning!) and the resort? Pretty darn stunning. Think lush greenery, turquoise water… and about a million screaming kids. Okay, maybe not a million, but enough to momentarily shatter my Zen-seeking vibe.

    • Anecdote: I tried the beach. Glorious. Until I spent 15 minutes battling with a stubbornly wedged beach umbrella. Victory! …immediately followed by a wave washing away my carefully constructed sandcastle. Cue inner child screaming. Gave up on the building, it was a losing battle.

    • Food-based Reaction: The hotel’s restaurant? Buffet. I love buffets. I ate so much it should almost be considered a crime. And the dim sum! I’m still dreaming of those fluffy, savoury morsels. But too much! I need a walk. Time to see more of the beaches.

  • Afternoon (Sun, Sand, and…Sandflies?): Serious beach time (again!). The sun, the sand…the relentless sandflies. I got eaten alive. My legs look like they're auditioning for a polka-dot convention. Forgot the bug spray. Rookie mistake! Vowed to learn from this.

  • Evening (Sunset, Dinner, and Regret): Sunset was spectacular. Seriously Instagrammable. Dinner at the seafood restaurant. Ordered something with chili. "Not too spicy," the waiter said, with a suspiciously knowing look. It was… volcanic. My mouth is still numb. And now, back to my room to battle those lingering sandfly bites. My brain is fried from the sun and the chili. Maybe a beer to calm down.

Day 2: Adventure (or, the Day I Almost Drowned in a Wave Pool)

  • Morning (Waterpark Wonder – or Terror?): The Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark! I, a grown adult, went on a water slide. Several, actually. The adrenaline rush! The sheer terror as you hurtle down a twisting tube! It was amazing. I screamed like a small child. And then… the wave pool. I'm…not a strong swimmer, and a particularly aggressive wave nearly carried me out to sea. I might have briefly blacked out. Okay, probably dramatic, but I nearly drowned.

    • Quirky Observation: The sheer glee on the faces of the kids as they watched me flail was both hilarious and mortifying. I'll be laughing about this for weeks.
  • Afternoon (Exploration and Food Coma): Headed to the Desaru Fruit Farm. I don’t know how good of a choice this was, but… I do love food. The fresh fruit was incredible! Mango, dragon fruit, rambutan… my taste buds are in heaven. Then, the durian. That pungent, divisive fruit. I bravely gave it a shot. It was… an experience. Let's just say I understand why some people love it, and some people…definitely don't. I'm in the middle.

    • Anecdote: Back, back at the resort. I realized I forgot to apply more sunscreen and it’s pretty bad. I am now lobster red. This trip is going to be a skin peeling fest! And I will probably never eat durian again.
  • Evening (Relaxation…and a Slight Meltdown): Attempted a spa treatment. "Relaxing massage," they said. "Unwind," they said. I spent the entire time wondering if the masseuse was judging my sunburn. Relaxed. Barely.

Day 3: Departure (and a Vow to Be More Prepared Next Time)

  • Morning (The Shopping Spree and the Scrounging): Last-minute souvenir shopping. Found some truly awful t-shirts (perfect!). Realized I was out of money. Had to scramble to find an ATM. Then, one last, desperate dip in the pool. Because, why not? Decided to go for a swim.
  • Afternoon (Back to Senai and Goodbye): The drive back to Senai. The car still runs. The AC still breathes gentle breezes. Farewells. This trip was honestly so messy and amazing.
  • Evening (Epilogue and the Flight Back): On the plane, exhausted, sunburned, slightly traumatized by the wave pool, and carrying a bag full of tacky souvenirs. But you know what? It was perfect. Imperfect. Messy. Wonderful. And I'll definitely be back. Maybe with a better swimsuit and, and more sunscreen (and a map).

Alright, spill the beans! Is Desaru REALLY a paradise? Or is it just another Instagram-filtered letdown?

Okay, okay, deep breaths. Paradise is a BIG word, right? And maybe a little overused by the tourism board. (Side note: I HATE staged photos! Makes me feel like I'm living in a postcard, ugh!) Desaru... it's got *moments* of paradise. Think golden beaches, the smell of frangipani in the air (when the wind's right), that unbelievably blue ocean... it’s pretty darn gorgeous, I won't lie. But... and there’s always a “but,” isn't there? Sometimes, the beach is LOADED with seaweed. (Which, nature, I get it, but my toes *hate* that stuff!) And the hawker food? Hit or miss, folks. One day you're having the best nasi lemak of your LIFE, the next you're nursing a dodgy stomach after a particularly adventurous satay escapade. Honestly, it's a roll of the dice. So, real talk? It ain't *perfect* paradise. More like... slightly flawed, undeniably beautiful, and occasionally slightly stomach-churning paradise. Which, come to think of it, is pretty much my life in a nutshell.

What's the deal with Glex Desaru? Is it all just fancy hotels and manicured lawns?

Glex Desaru? That's the fancy bit. Think sleek, modern, and a whole lotta shiny. Yep, you've got your fancy hotels, your golf courses (which, let's be honest, I appreciate from a distance – walking is enough exercise for me!), and those perfectly sculpted lawns. It's definitely for the more... refined traveler. But here's the thing I learned: Behind the glossy facade, there's a real sense of community. One day, I was chatting with a staff member at the cafe – he'd been struggling with a broken coffee machine all morning! He was just so genuinely frustrated (and, let’s face it, a little terrified of his boss), and it made me laugh. Because, you know, real life. It’s not *all* perfectly pristine. So, yes, it's a bit posh, but also... human. And hey, those pristine pools? They’re excellent for pretending you know how to swim. Which I *don't*. Don't tell anyone.

So, activities? What's there to *actually* do besides sunbathe and eat questionable food? (Asking for a friend...cough, cough, myself)

Okay, okay, let's move past the food question. (I swear, I'm still recovering from that satay.) Activities! Desaru's got options. Beach bumming, obviously. You can spend hours just staring at the waves, which is honestly my idea of a good time. Then there's the water park (Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast - it's HUGE!), which is BRILLIANT if you're into that sort of thing. I went once. Once. Let's just say, I'm not built for speed slides. The lazy river? My jam. I spent a solid hour just floating, judging the people who were *too* enthusiastic about the wave pool. (Also, sunscreen. Wear it! Seriously. Lesson learned… the hard way. My shoulders are still peeling.) And then there's the wildlife! You can take a boat trip to spot fireflies (romantic, I tell ya!), or even go on a mangrove tour. I saw a monkey steal a banana. It was the highlight of my trip. (Though, I’m secretly hoping to spot a Komodo Dragon. A safe distance, of course).

Is the internet reliable? Because, you know... #travelbloggerlife (kidding... mostly)

Ah, the internet. The modern-day lifeline. Look, in the hotels, it's usually pretty good. Enough to upload the obligatory sunset pic and brag to your friends back home. Outside of the big resorts? Well... Let's just say things can get a little… patchy. There were a few times when I was desperate to check my emails, and I swear I could *feel* my blood pressure rising. Embrace the digital detox, they say! (While frantically searching for a Wi-Fi signal…) So, pack a book. Or, you know, just learn to enjoy the blissful silence. (I am NOT good at silences. Hence the rambling…)

What's the food REALLY like? Beyond the "hit or miss" assessment. Dish me the dirt!

Okay, deep breath. The food. It's a rollercoaster, honestly. You've got your amazing fresh seafood. Grilled fish, prawns, the works. Heaven! Then, you get the stuff that... well, you're not entirely sure what it *is*. There was this one noodle dish… I *think* it was chicken? Or maybe… duck? I'm still not sure. And let's not even talk about that mystery meat on the satay sticks. (Still recovering, remember?) But honestly? The street food is where it's at. Grab a roti canai in the morning. Delicious! Just… be prepared for the occasional overly enthusiastic chili. (My mouth still burns thinking about it). And the durian! If you're brave (and I am, sometimes!), try some durian. It smells like… well, it smells! But the taste? For some, it's heavenly. For others, it's an experience. Me? I'm strangely addicted. Don't judge.

How do I get to Desaru? Is it a nightmare?

Getting there? It's… manageable. From Singapore, most people drive, which is probably the easiest way. The roads are decent, and it takes a couple of hours. Just be prepared for border crossings. They can be… efficient. Or, if you're unlucky, they can be a bit of a wait. Pack snacks. And your patience. You can also fly into Senai International Airport (JHB), then get a transfer. I haven’t done that, but I've heard it's okay. Or, you can hire a driver. Whatever you do, plan ahead! Because, the last thing you want to do is arrive, hangry, at a dodgy food stall after a long day of travel. (Trust me, been there, done that, got the questionable tummy ache to prove it).

What about mosquito? Anything to worry about?

Oh, mosquitos. The tiny vampires of the tropics. Yes, they are a thing. Especially at dusk. Bring bug spray! And use it! Seriously. I forgot one time, and I swear I was eaten alive. My legs looked like a connect-the-dots game. Itchy, awful, and totally avoidable. Long sleeves and pants at night are also a good idea, unless you enjoy scratching until you bleed. Learn from my mistakes, people! And pack that spray. Seriously. Trust me.
